Winning Moves

This Christmas, as the world grapples with big issues, we at Winning Moves are focused on the little moments of joy that make the season special.

Because we believe everyone deserves A Merry Little Christmas, we have decided to donate our Christmas budget to local charities that are working tirelessly to bring a little joy to those who are most vulnerable in our society. We invite you to help us.

OUR CHOSEN CHARITIES

Our staff selected three amazing charities that they feel will bring little moments of joy to those in need this holiday season. As you will note in our selection, this year we stayed close to home by supporting charities in our local community of Birmingham. Click on the + sign to learn about each and what they are doing to make a difference to those in need. Then, please scroll down and select the one charity that is most important to you, and we will share our budget proportionately across the three.

Let’s Feed Brum

A leading homeless charity in Birmingham, Let’s Feed Brum aims to give people their dignity back at a time when they’re feeling low. They provide food, drink, essential supplies and friendship to anyone who is homeless or at risk of homelessness. With empathy and respect, they listen and start conversations with the people they serve to understand their needs and connect them with support services that can help.

Let’s Feed Brum is hosting a Christmas lunch for 250 at St Philip’s Cathedral this year, featuring a sit-down meal with all the trimmings, music and a gift for each guest. On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, their team of volunteers will be on the streets as they are every evening, delivering hot food and drink and a listening ear.

Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid

For more than 40 years, Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid have provided front line emotional and practical support to women and children who are affected by domestic violence and abuse. Every Christmas they make sure families have one less worry by providing thoughtful and appropriate gifts for women and children in their refuges. The gifts are delivered by the ‘Lilac Fairy’ and her helpers who bring little moments of joy and make Christmas as special as possible for those in their care.

Birmingham Mind

Mind provides advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They also campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding of mental health issues.

As we face a challenging winter, the impact of the rise in the cost of living burdens those already experiencing inequality, poverty and hardship most. Mind provides supportive and reliable information that can change a person's life by helping them to understand their condition and the choices available to them.

HAVE YOURSELF
A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS

By Hugh Martin & Ralph Blaine

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on
Our troubles will be out of sight

Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the Yuletide gay
From now on
Our troubles will be miles away

Here we are as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more

Through the years
We all will be together
If the fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now

Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more

Through the years
We all will be together
If the fates allow
So hang a shining star upon the highest bough
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now
